Nainoa's Wild Bike Adventures

For Christmas we got Nainoa a balance bike and we've been taking it to the park. If you're wondering what a balance bike is, it's a training bike with no training wheels. Confused? Well a balance bike doesn't have training wheels b/c the whole idea is that the rider learns balance and steering first, pedal last. Usually a kid learns kind of backwards they learn to pedal first then to balance. Not only does this bike not have pedals, but it doesn't have brakes either (well at least the one we have) oh and no chain. The childs feet are the brakes (think Flinestones). The bike is small enough that the rider can walk the bike while sitting in the saddle, putting both feet on the ground. As the rider walks the bike he/she begins to feel comfortable enough to run and scoot while riding, then eventually lifting both feet of the ground cruising and balancing on the two wheels. Here are some pictures of Nainoa on his bike and one of the baby sitting in the stroller (poor kiddo he's always in the stroller). Nainos is getting better and better every time we go out on his bike. I'll get some more pictures of the baby up next time it's late.

Lifting his bike over the curb.

Doing some off roading.

Catching up to me.

He's gaining speed.
