I find it odd to hear folks say, "Happy Memorial Day!" I cringe when I hear this. How is this a happy occasion? Memorial Day is a time to remember our fallen soldiers. While I do understand that this is generally considered the "official" summer kick-off marked by family get togethers and barbeques, I would hardly call it happy. It seems nowadays, the true meaning of things have become lost in the shuffle of commercialism (three day weekend,Memorial Day Sales etc.). I'm very fortunate to have my brother come home safely from Iraq, but many families have lost a loved one in a war. So I wanted to take the time to remember our nation's fallen heroes. I ask that the solemn nature of this occasion not be forgotten and that we reflect on the history of sacrifices made for freedom.
Always Remember
We bow our heads in silent grace; Proud to stand upon this place. To honor those who we love and lost; Whose lives were taken at such a cost. Through the pain and sorrow, for all the brave and true;To always be remembered by me and by you.To heal the minds and hearts, of those who still live;Always remembering what they had to give.Live your lives with pride in hearing what I say;May God bless and keep you on this and every day.

ReplyDeleteAmen, let us not forget and appreciate the freedom they have given us. I have always wondered why it is that the ones to die are our young men who are brain washed into willingly giving their lives for wars that politicians start. Why don't they go in and fight other politicians from other countries or for that matter send their own kids to war. For the most part, if their children do serve our nation, it's in a cushy position or not at all. Then they come out with more metals than Generals. I think we the people are starting to question authority more often, as we have seen lately with the tax revolt. We need to wake up and question authority (Politicians) they are not looking out for our best interest. I read a head line this last week after the "Special Election" which said "Legislators ponder what this election results mean" Are they that stupid? It means we are tired of them spending our money! Oh well!
ReplyDeleteA salute to all our men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice, gone but never forgotten.
